An Unusual Late 17th Century Oak Single Chair
Having two very similar back splats, with scalloped upper edges, scrolled carving to each side of a stylised drooping flower head, and a very simple fleurs de lys set within a roundel along the bottom edge. The seat is inset, legs ball-turned, and the centre stretcher baluster turned.
Note – it is interesting to compare this chair with reference 2555, certainly made in the same workshop, but probably 40 years later, perhaps son is copying father’s design.
Yorkshire/Derbyshire, circa 1700.
Height 41.5 inches, width 18.5 inches, depth 15 inches.
Ref 2559
